The Reason To Trust God. – A Voice from Liberia

by Pastor Philip Borbor Joshua

Some years ago, I was involved in a serious car accident, yet by the grace of God, my life was spared. I was traveling in a passenger vehicle with many other people on a dangerous road in Africa. As we were climbing a very steep hill, the vehicle’s brakes suddenly failed. When some passengers realized the car was rolling backward uncontrollably, they jumped out in an attempt to save themselves. However, I said to myself, “My life is in the hands of God. I will not jump.” I remained in the vehicle as it rolled down the hill and finally came to a stop halfway into a valley.

By God’s mercy, I suffered only minor injuries to my hand and leg, but I survived. Sadly, two of the passengers who jumped lost their lives, while many others sustained severe injuries, including broken legs. That experience reminded me that our safety is ultimately in God’s hands, not merely in our own efforts.

When we find ourselves surrounded by frightening situations or circumstances beyond our control, we should not be overcome with fear or rely solely on our own wisdom. Instead, we should place our trust in the Lord, knowing that He is able to protect and sustain us according to His will. As the Bible says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5–6). David also declared, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear” (Psalm 46:1–2). Whatever we face, our confidence should remain in God, for our lives are in His hands.
