My Testimony: How I Came to Christ and Into Ministry
My Family’s Story During the Liberian Civil War:
I would like to share the story of how God has worked throughout my life.
When the Liberian civil war broke out in 1990, I was a little boy living with my parents in our village. One morning, we were awakened by the terrifying sound of heavy gunfire. Rebel forces had attacked our village, and everyone fled in different directions to save their lives. Sadly, many people were killed that day.
My late mother and I escaped together, traveling through the bush for several weeks until we crossed the border into Côte d’Ivoire as refugees. My late father fled alone in a different direction. Along the way, he survived by drinking rainwater collected on leaves because he had no food.. After weeks of hardship, he finally reunited with us in the refugee camp.
By the time he reached us, he was seriously ill. As refugees, we had no money to take him to a hospital. After only one month with us, my father passed away. Losing him at such a young age was one of the greatest sorrows of my life.
How I Came to Christ
Five years later, one of my relatives passed away. During the funeral service, Pastor Victor Mator preached the gospel. As I listened to the message, the Holy Spirit deeply touched my heart.
When the invitation was given to receive Christ, I walked forward and surrendered my life to Jesus. That day, I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. It was the greatest decision I have ever made, and it completely changed the direction of my life.
Returning Home After Fourteen Years
After living in exile for fourteen years, my family returned to Liberia. We found that our village had become overgrown like a forest because it had been abandoned during the war.
My late mother a widow, earned a living as a farmer. I stayed with her for several years, helping her on the farm. Eventually, I needed to move to the city to continue my education because the village school only offered classes up to the ninth grade, and I had been promoted to the tenth grade.
While I was in the twelfth grade, I received heartbreaking news from the village. My mother had drunk caustic soda, a chemical used in making soap. To this day, we do not know whether it was an accident or whether she drank it because of the pain and frustration she had endured after years of suffering.
My older sister and I immediately hired a vehicle and rushed to the village to take her for medical treatment. Sadly, before we arrived, she had already passed away.
Losing both of my parents after everything we had endured was an incredibly painful experience.
How God Called Me Into Ministry
As I look back over my life – the hardships of being a refugee, returning home to nothing, losing both of my parents, and struggling to support myself through school – I can clearly see the faithfulness of God.
The one thing that continually gave me strength, comfort, and hope was the Word of God. Whenever I read my Bible, God reminded me that He was with me and had not forgotten me.
Because of what God had done in my life, I began encouraging others who were facing similar struggles to trust in the Lord. Although I loved sharing God’s Word, I often struggled with fear and lacked confidence. I was careful about whom I spoke to because I doubted myself.
Then one day, God spoke clearly to my heart through a revelation: “I am with you. Do not be afraid. Many people will be strengthened by your testimony.”
Even then, I was still hesitant. But God confirmed His calling through my pastor, who independently shared with me that God had called me to preach His Word.
After receiving biblical training, I was ordained as a pastor.
For the past ten years, my passion has been missions and church planting. My greatest desire is to see people come to know Jesus Christ, grow in their faith, and experience the transforming power of the gospel.
Prayer Request
I pray that God will continue opening doors for ministry partnerships with individuals, churches, and organizations who will stand with us in prayer and practical support. Our desire is to meet both the spiritual and physical needs of the people we serve and to continue advancing the Kingdom of God wherever He leads us.
To God be all the glory.
