From Biscuits to a Divine Encounter: Growing up, my mother faithfully took us to church. She was a devoted member of The Church of Pentecost, and Sunday service was non-negotiable in our home. As boys will be, my siblings and I later drifted to a nearby Assemblies of God church. Truthfully, we went because the new pastor in our neighborhood gave biscuits and toffees to every child who attended. We were children chasing sweets, not yet chasing God.
By my teenage years, between 1993 and 1997, even the biscuits lost their pull. I stopped going to church altogether. After completing high school in 1997, while waiting to begin university, a new church started in our small town: International Central Gospel Church. One of its leaders took a special interest in me. Every Saturday, without fail, he showed up at our house to share the gospel with me and my siblings. I kept promising I would visit his church, but Sunday after Sunday, I never did. Still, he never gave up.
The Dream That Changed Everything – June 1997
Then one Saturday night in June 1997, God Himself intervened through a dream. In the dream, I heard the sound of a loud trumpet. It was not an ordinary sound. It pierced the atmosphere, and it felt like the whole world could hear it. “For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God.” — 1 Thessalonians 4:16 ESV
Immediately after the trumpet, a voice spoke from the sky. The voice was majestic, clear, and everywhere at once. He introduced Himself: “I am Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God who came to earth to die for the sins of humanity.” His voice echoed across the earth. He said many things I can no longer recall, but His final words are burned into my memory: “Behold, I am coming soon.”“Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done.” — Revelation 22:12 ESVI woke up shaken. The next morning was Sunday. For the first time, I did not need to be persuaded. I walked into that brother’s church, responded to the altar call, and surrendered my life to Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior.
Rapid Growth and Early Leadership
Shortly after, I was baptized in water and received the baptism in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. My spiritual growth was rapid. Before long, I was leading the intercessory prayer group in the church. That season prepared me for the next chapter: university. In 2000, I left for the Northern Region to begin my studies at the University for Development Studies, pursuing a degree in Agricultural Technology. On campus, I was more active in Christian fellowships than in lecture halls. By my first year, I was an executive in two fellowships. I preached at large student gatherings and prayed for the sick. The Lord honored His Word — people were healed instantly as we prayed. Ministry was burning in my bones.
The Call That Cost Me Everything
Midway through university, I lost all interest in academics. My heart was only for souls, for preaching, and for healing the sick. I sensed God was asking me to lay down my degree and give myself wholly to ministry, but I wrestled with the decision.Confirmation came during an Easter Convention outside campus. In that meeting, a prophetic word was released that echoed everything God had already been speaking to me privately. I knew it was time. I packed my bags, left the university, and returned to Accra in Southern Ghana. The reaction was brutal. My family and my church thought I had lost my mind. They demanded I return to school. I was rejected and misunderstood for obeying what I knew was God’s voice. I was confused and lonely, yet certain.
Provision in the Wilderness
In that season, God raised a stranger who fully sponsored me to attend Agape Bible College. I had no financial backing, no family support, but God proved Himself faithful. I graduated from Bible College in 2004.In 2005, I stepped out and planted Golden Gospel Church in a small town called Medie, Ghana. The journey has been difficult. I have had no major sponsors or financial partners. But since 2005, I have remained faithful to the call.
Along the way, the Lord blessed me with a wife and four beautiful children. He also opened doors for further theological training. By His grace, I earned a degree in Theology and Missions and a Master’s degree from Pentecost University. How God funded that education is another miraculous testimony for another day.
Today
From a boy who followed biscuits to a man who follows Christ, from a rejected university dropout to a pastor and theological scholar — it has all been by grace. I am what I am because Jesus came for me, called me, and kept me. “Faithful is he who calls you, and he will do it.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:24 ESV
